Our Mission

To empower schools and communities across informal settlements and rural Kenya through targeted educational support, school infrastructure improvement, public participation in government policy, and community welfare initiatives that foster dignity and self-reliance.

"A society where every learner is supported to reach their highest potential, every community has a meaningful voice in government decisions that affect it, and every family has the means to build a dignified life."

— Our Vision

Wananchi Oversight Network

Tetragrammaton Inc., operating as the Wananchi Oversight Network, is a non-profit organisation whose activities are based in Kenya. We work at the intersection of education, community welfare, and civic engagement — delivering practical support that creates lasting change in the lives of learners, families, and communities across informal settlements and rural Kenya.

Our education work spans university application advisory, scholarship support, fee subsidies, provision of school items, and infrastructure improvements — from solar lighting systems and water pumping to sanitation facilities. We believe a well-resourced, well-lit, and well-equipped school is a community's most powerful asset.

Separately, we facilitate structured public participation processes that connect communities with government policy-making, ensuring that the voices of ordinary citizens meaningfully shape the decisions that govern their lives.

Informal settlements in Nairobi, Kenya

Informal Settlements & Rural Kenya

We work in the communities where need is greatest — including Kawangware and beyond — bringing education advisory, school infrastructure support, and community development programmes directly to those who need them most.

General & Specific Objectives

Two general objectives frame all our work. Eight specific objectives define how we deliver on them.

General Objective 1

School Empowerment & Community Well-being

To improve the quality of education and community well-being in informal settlements and rural Kenya through school empowerment, educational advisory support, school infrastructure development, and sustainable livelihood initiatives that enable learners and families to thrive.

General Objective 2

Public Participation in Government Policy

To strengthen the capacity of communities to engage meaningfully in public participation processes on government policies and programmes — ensuring that the voices of ordinary citizens inform and influence decisions that directly affect their lives.

How We Deliver on Our Mission

Each specific objective maps to one of our two general objectives and is delivered through a dedicated programme area.

🎓
01

Education Advisory & University Access

Provide university application guidance, KUCCPS advisory, career counselling, and scholarship support to learners — especially those from low-income and first-generation backgrounds.

💰
02

Fee Subsidy & School Items Support

Offer fee subsidies, bursaries, and provision of school items — uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, and stationery — removing financial barriers to learning at all levels.

03

School Infrastructure & Utilities

Improve school environments through solar lighting systems, water pumping infrastructure, sanitation facilities, and classroom improvements — creating safe, functional spaces for learning.

🗣️
04

Public Participation in Government Policy

Facilitate structured community participation forums and dialogues on government policies, budgets, and programmes — giving citizens an informed and meaningful voice in governance.

🤝
05

Public Partnerships & Collaboration

Build strategic partnerships with government agencies, schools, county authorities, the private sector, and development organisations to amplify the reach and sustainability of our work.

❤️
06

Community Welfare & Social Protection

Support vulnerable families through welfare activities, food assistance, and linkage to social protection services and government safety nets — leaving no family behind.

📊
07

Research & Documentation

Conduct community-based research, document best practices in education empowerment and public participation, and share findings to inform programming and policy dialogue.

💼
08

Livelihood & Skills Empowerment

Empower youth and adults through vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and practical skills that strengthen household economic resilience and self-sufficiency.

Our Programmes

Four practical, community-centred programmes turning our objectives into real change on the ground.

🗣️

Public Participation & Policy Engagement

We design and facilitate inclusive public participation forums, barazas, and structured community dialogues on government policies and programmes. Our processes are grounded in constitutional and statutory frameworks, ensuring communities can engage government in a meaningful, informed, and organised way — independently of any school or education context.

Policy Forums Community Barazas Government Engagement

School Infrastructure & Utilities

We partner with public schools to fund and implement critical infrastructure upgrades — solar lighting systems that keep classrooms functional after dark, water pumping systems that deliver clean water on-site, sanitation and hygiene facilities, and general classroom improvements that create safe, dignified, and productive learning environments.
